Joy is an outgoing, authentic and adventurous lover of life who has worked in the wellness field for the last 16 years. She is a health coach, RYT-200 yoga teacher, and school psychologist. Joy attended Marshall University in WV where she obtained a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology (2002) and an Education Specialist degree in School Psychology (2005). She received her training as a Health Coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (2018). She has combined her academic, health coaching and yoga training to create a holistic and integrative approach to physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. She is passionate about helping others realize their full potential and learn how to tap into their innate ability to live authentically with her JoyFull Heart Living approach.
Joy has a particular interest in working with individuals with special needs, veterans, and those with emotional struggles. She specializes in working with children and adults with attention deficit disorders, anxiety disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and those with difficulties regulating their emotions.
Joy is a strong advocate for mental illness with volunteer work through serving as a board member for the Mid-Carolina chapter of National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI). She has been a driving force for introducing mental health awareness curriculums into the public schools in her former home state of South Carolina to help break stigma associated with mental illness and increase awareness. Joy co-taught the Breaking the Silence mental health awareness curriculum by NAMI with general education teachers to 4th and 5th grade students. The students participated in a service learning project which included presentations about mental illness to their peers, offering bake sales to raise money for NAMI, and walking in the yearly NAMI WALK event. She is currently advocating mindfulness curriculums in the public schools to help increase attention, focus, self-awareness, kindness, gratitude, and self-regulation skills.
